Equality Act 2010 Factsheets

Chwarae Teg Agile Nation Project giving Welsh businesses a 'virtual' helping hand with Equality Act

Employers in Wales are able to kick-off the New Year with peace of mind that they are compliant with the Equality Act 2010 thanks to a series of free downloadable guides covering key aspects of the legislation

The guidelines will be available online through this website through-out January onwards, and will act as a reference point for businesses who want to improve their understanding of the regulation, and to find out how it can bring benefits to both the business and its employees.

The factsheets cover a range of topics relating to the Equality Act 2010, including the 9 Protected Characteristics covered by the legislation

The guides also provide practical tips on how businesses can make the act work for them and how they can encourage a fair and equal working environment.

Agile Nation project manager, Hayley Dunne said:

“From interacting with SMEs in Wales, we understand the challenge that many employers face when implementing the Equality Act, particularly small businesses.

Whilst everyone is committed to complying with the law, more businesses could truly embrace the Act to give them the opportunity to become best practice employers, which in turn offers genuine benefits ranging from an enhanced image to increased staff loyalty.

Studies show that equal opportunity employers have an edge when it comes to attracting and retaining the most talented staff; this is of course paramount to the profitability of any business.

“We understand that SMEs do not have the same level of resources as large enterprises to devote to developing effective diversity strategies.

However, with support from Agile Nation they too can benefit from expert advice, and the factsheets are the perfect starting point in gaining the knowledge needed to truly make diversity work for their businesses, their employees and their customers.

The New Year presents a chance to review policies and to look at how the Equality Act 2010 can make a positive difference in the workplace and to the bottom line as well.”

The £12.5m European Social Fund and Welsh Government funded Agile Nation project’s Evolve programme offers advice and practical support to businesses in the convergence areas of Wales. This includes advising them on the positive effects an effective diversity strategy can have within the workplace.
