Patchwork Entrepreneur shares her experience with Agile Nation
On Wednesday 10th August 2011, at the Carreg Môn Hotel in Menai Bridge Margaret Carter founder of Patchwork Foods shared her story with Ascent participants
Margaret’s success story is truly inspirational, after becoming divorced and with three children to support in 1982, Margaret began making pâté from her own kitchen and selling to pubs in and around Llangollen
Such was the success of Margret’s handmade Pate that in 1987, she was able to locate to a purpose built facility in Ruthin and currently employs 30 people. Importantly although the quantity of pâté that is produced has increased massively, it is all still handmade with no artificial preservatives and to Margaret’s original recipes.
The 25 participants who attended were offered samples of Margaret’s famous pâtés ahead of enjoying Margaret’s presentation which, based on real life experiences, highlighted the need to be determined and even at times to challenge your fears.
For example: Margaret explained that at times the thought of going out to sell her pâté was a daunting prospect, yet ultimately she knew the only thing she could do was make herself to go out and knock on doors and start selling.
One truly important piece of advice Margaret offered to the audience was the importance of looking after yourself. Whilst this sounds obvious, often if you are looking after a family you can forget to look after yourself. In essence by looking after yourself you are best placed to perform better at work and to manage the day-to-day challenges you inevitably encounter.
The North Wales Agile Nation team arranged this highly successful event and is hugely grateful that Margaret Carter kindly agreed to give a presentation. This hopefully will have a lasting and positive effect on the Agile Nation participants who attended.
