Childcare Voucher Scheme Case Study
Childcare remains one of the biggest obstacles for women who are looking to fulfil their potential at work but also retain some work-life balance
Chwarae Teg have helped several of their employees with this by implementing a Childcare Vouchers scheme:
Maria Mallon, Chwarae Teg HR Officer
"... Chwarae Teg has recently been through a period of expansion, recruiting more than a dozen new staff. We quickly identified that many of our new staff had childcare responsibilities. As an employer who values the work life balance of its employees we decided to introduce a childcare voucher scheme in partnership with Busy Bees Childcare Vouchers.
The childcare voucher scheme enables employees to make significant savings on their national insurance and tax contributions. Chwarae Teg also makes savings on the employees' national insurance and tax contributions and pays Busy Bees a small management fee. Therefore the scheme is cost neutral to the employer.
All of the materials were supplied by Busy Bees Childcare Vouchers and the scheme was rolled out successfully. We decided to launch an internal childcare policy to give employees more guidance as to how the scheme operated. Overall, it really adds to our employee benefits package, offering our staff savings at a time when childcare arrangements can be costly... "
Katie Cole Senior Project Officer - South East Wales is one of the first employees to take advantage of the scheme:
"My previous employer, a Local Authority, ran a childcare voucher scheme with Busy Bees (now known as Computer Share). When offered the post, I enquired about whether Chwarae Teg offered childcare vouchers. Luckily, after making initial enquiries, Chwarae Teg decided to offer childcare vouchers in return for salary sacrifice.
In effect, this means the majority of my childcare (2 days per week) is paid for straight from my salary, so I don't have to worry about it.
Everything then happens electronically, and my childcare provider is paid within 4-5 working days.Childcare vouchers are great - I am not taxed on the £243 allowance (which is the maximum you can claim) and therefore I am financially better off for using the scheme"
All you have to do is:
- log on to the Computer Share website (http://www.computersharevoucherservices.com),
- click onto the E-vouchers section, and then pay my childminder.
